About

Heartprints Counselling Centre is situated in Pretoria, South Africa.

As a Pastoral and Wellness Counsellor, my role involves integrating spiritual and holistic approaches to support individuals in their emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. I focus on addressing the whole person, considering their spiritual beliefs and practices alongside traditional counselling techniques.

My work aims to foster overall well-being, addressing the needs of individuals from a comprehensive perspective that respects and integrates their spiritual and personal values.

art

Art therapy is accessible to everyone, regardless of their artistic skills or experience. It is not merely an art class or a way to pass the time; rather, it leverages the creative process to facilitate deeper engagement with therapy. By using various forms of artistic expression, art therapy helps individuals open and explore their emotions in novel ways, which can significantly enhance the healing process.

What clients have to say

COGNITIVE
THERAPY

The way we think about things affects how we feel emotionally. Cognitive therapy focuses on present thinking, behaviour, and communication rather than on past experiences and is oriented toward problem solving.

Cognitive therapy is centred on recognizing and altering negative or distorted thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and behavioural issues.

Its primary aim is to help individuals cultivate healthier and more accurate ways of thinking, leading to better emotional well-being and more effective coping mechanisms.

Unlike other therapeutic approaches, cognitive therapy prioritises present thoughts and problem-solving over delving into past experiences.

INTERPERSONAL
THERAPY

A form of therapy that focuses on you and your relationships with other people. It centers on resolving interpersonal problems & symptomatic recovery.

Interpersonal Therapy is a focused, time-limited therapy designed to enhance interpersonal relationships and social functioning to alleviate emotional distress, such as depression.

The therapy primarily targets four key areas:

Grief: Managing the emotional impact of losing a loved one.

Role Disputes: Resolving conflicts and enhancing communication with significant others

Role Transitions: Adapting to major life changes, such as relocation, job changes, or shifts in life stages.

Interpersonal Deficits: Improving social skills and forming more fulfilling relationships for those struggling with connection difficulties.

By focusing on these areas, the therapy aims to improve communication skills, strengthen relationships, and effectively manage interpersonal issues, which can lead to reduced depressive symptoms and better overall functioning.

NARRATIVE
THERAPY

A form of therapy that helps the individual to identify and apply their own values to effectively confront the challenges they face in life.

Narrative Therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on the stories and narratives individuals construct about their lives.

Key aspects of Narrative Therapy include:

Externalising Problems: Instead of seeing problems as part of the individual’s identity, Narrative Therapy encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves. This helps reduce self-blame and allows individuals to address the issues more objectively.

Reauthoring Stories: Individuals are guided to explore and reshape their personal narratives. By identifying and challenging unhelpful or limiting beliefs and stories, clients can construct new, more empowering narratives about their lives.

Empowerment and Agency: Narrative Therapy emphasizes the client’s role as the author of their own story. By recognizing their ability to influence and change their narrative, individuals can feel more empowered and proactive in their lives.

Cultural and Social Context: The therapy considers the broader cultural and social contexts that influence an individual’s narratives. It helps clients understand how societal and cultural factors impact their stories and provides a framework for making meaningful changes.

In essence, Narrative Therapy helps individuals examine and reframe their personal stories, promoting greater self-understanding, resilience, and the possibility of new ways of engaging with their lives and challenges.

BEHAVIORAL
THERAPY

A form of therapy seeking to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It functions on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy behaviors can be changed.

It is based on the idea that many mental health issues are learned behaviours that can be unlearned or replaced with healthier alternatives.

Key aspects of Behavioral Therapy include:

Focus on Observable Behaviour: Behavioral Therapy emphasises the examination and modification of specific, observable behaviours rather than exploring underlying thoughts or feelings.

Learning Principles: The therapy uses principles of classical and operant conditioning to address and change problematic behaviours. Techniques might include reinforcement (rewarding desired behaviours), punishment (discouraging unwanted behaviours), and systematic desensitisation (gradual exposure to feared situations).

Behavioural Assessment: Ecometrists conduct assessments to identify and understand the target behaviours and the factors that reinforce or maintain them. This helps in designing effective intervention strategies.

Skill Development: Behavioral Therapy often involves teaching clients’ new skills or coping strategies to replace maladaptive behaviours. For example, individuals might learn problem-solving skills, relaxation techniques, or social skills.

Structured and Goal-Oriented: The therapy is typically structured and goal-oriented, with a clear focus on achieving specific, measurable changes in behaviour.

Behavioral Therapy is commonly used to treat various issues, including anxiety disorders, and certain types of depression.

By focusing on changing specific behaviours, the therapy aims to improve overall functioning and quality of life.
