Closing Circles, Opening Spaces
December arrives like a spiral: winding inward to close what’s been, then widening outward to make room for what’s next. This month I’m holding a simple intention – to end well so we can begin refreshed – and to honour endings as the quiet doorways that lead to new beginnings.
Personal reflections
I feel especially nostalgic in December. I find myself pondering the steep hills I climbed this year, the moments of uncertainty, and the steady rhythm in my chest that kept urging me to get up and go. Those small, persistent beats of courage carried me through, and they remind me that progress is often quieter than we expect.
Two moments filled my cup this year and reminded me why the climb is worth it: hiking the Nigramoep, where the landscape humbled and renewed me, and performing in a choir of 250 women, where voice and community met in a powerful, joyful chorus. Both experiences left me full and quietly excited for what the next year might bring.
Closing circles this year
This year I’m closing circles by taking time to reflect on wins, losses, and the small lessons that often go unnoticed, and by ritualising endings – writing a short note, clearing a corner, or saying a quiet goodbye – to give those moments the respect they deserve.
I’m practicing release with gratitude rather than force, letting go gently so new things can breathe and settle in. I’m also choosing to stay present: where I once finished my yearly plan in December, I’m no longer planning ahead the way I used to; instead I’m living in the moment and making decisions from my current reality.
Gratitude
To every client who trusted Heartprints Counselling Centre this year: thank you. Watching our work grow and seeing lives change brings me immense joy. Your courage to show up is the heartbeat of this work. I could not do this without God’s love, grace, and provision – He has carried and provided in ways I can’t fully name.
Looking toward 2026
My prayer for 2026 is that the work continues, that I remain present, and that every task – big or small – glorifies God. As we close 2025, may you find meaning in your endings, momentum in your pauses, and renewal in your belonging.
With gratitude,
